Alcoholics Anonymous Come of Age is an inside and wide-angled view of Alcoholics Anonymous. Six decades have gone by since AA’s historic 1955 International Convention in St. Louis, when the founding members passed on to the entire Fellowship the responsibility for the Three Legacies of Recovery, Unity, and Service. This book takes you on a quick tour of the Convention through Bill W.’s talks on that occasion, traces the history and development of those Three Legacies, and looks at AA through the eyes of some early nonalcoholics who influenced the history of the movement.

Dr. Bob and The Oldtimers is the story of our co-founder Dr. Bob, told, for the most part, from the perspective of those who knew him best. Dr. Bob died in 1950 when the fellowship was just fifteen but his impact on Alcoholics Anonymous was profound and can still be felt today. Dr. Bob was a proud Vermonter, starting out as a hard-drinking college boy, then a medical student, a respected physician, a loving but increasingly unreliable family man and lastly, a desperately ill drunk. He was without hope until he met Bill W. who had been visiting from New York. This lasting and unexpected friendship proved to be a firm foundation for the fellowship we know and love today.
Pass it On tells the dramatic story of the founding of Alcoholics Anonymous, its early struggles and amazing growth. In these pages is the full and rounded story of a remarkable life: The boy growing up in Vermont, always striving to be Number One. The Army officer serving “over there” in World War I. Bill’s romance and marriage with Lois. The fair-haired boy of Wall Street plummeting to rum-soaked despair. Ebby T. and Dr. Silkworth, Bill’s spiritual experience, and his meeting with Dr. Bob. And of special significance to the AA reader, Bill’s role in Alcoholics Anonymous. In preparation for over five years, this is the definitive biography of Bill W. Every word is documented, every source checked. For the scholar this volume is invaluable. For all of us, it is exciting reading.
